Tatting is a beautiful, time-honored lacemaking technique built from a series of carefully formed knots. We don’t know the exact origins, but it gained widespread popularity across Europe by the 1700s and flourished through the Victorian era.
While the origins of tatting may remain a mystery, instructor Katrina King takes the mystery out of learning the basics in this new video. She’ll be your guide from choosing a shuttle to reading patterns. On the way, you’ll learn the core skills of tatting: forming double stitches and mastering the flip, and then combining them with picots to create beautiful lace motifs.
A special feature of this video is that it provides tatting instructions and demonstrations for both left- and right-handed crafters.
In this video, you will learn:
Before long, you’ll be rhythmically passing your shuttle through loops of thread and enjoying this calming and enjoyable lacemaking craft.
In as little as an evening, you’ll have the skills to create a simple motif and be ready to tackle more intricate lace designs. Most importantly, you’ll develop a comfortable, confident tatting style that works for you!
