Meet Maggie Casey

Maggie Casey

As the co-owner of Shuttles, Spindles, and Skeins, a fiber arts store in Boulder, Colorado, Maggie Casey taught hundreds of people to spin in her own shop and hundreds more at events around the country. A spinner since 1973, she holds the Handweavers Guild of America Certificate of Excellence in Handspinning. Maggie is the author of the classic book Start Spinning: Everything You Need to Know to Make Great Yarn.

Great for true beginners

“I had tried to learn drop spinning from a few YouTube videos, and it got me started, but I didn't understand why and how it all worked like this video course showed. I wished I'd started with this video! But now I'm on the right track, and fully understand why I'm doing what I'm doing with the fiber, spindle, yarn, playing and the niddy noddy. Love it!” - Cherie Davidson

Informative and Creative

“Some of the different approaches helped me with my own troubleshooting. And I appreciate that she does everything with just the bare essentials so you don't have to spend a lot to get started.” - Chelsea Fawson

“It almost felt like taking an actual class. Maggie explains things very clearly, and the student asked good questions and encountered challenges that would be common for any beginner spinner. I am just getting started with learning how to spin and had tried learning from a few other sources, but this one seems to be by far the most helpful and makes the task feel approachable. I also like how Maggie explains what yarn is and how twist works, etc., so that we understand why we do each little thing.” - Kirsten H
