In this course, master weaver and teacher Tom Knisely will show you the ins and outs to boundweave. You’ll learn about loom setup and equipment, tools, and get helpful tips from Tom along the way. Soon you’ll be weaving sturdy rugs, placemats, table runners, and more!

An Introduction from Instructor Tom Knisely

Boundweave has been around for centuries and offers unique patterning possibilities. Once you have the foundation, you can use your favorite twills to weave colorful and geometric designs that are perfect for rugs and household items. Materials and equipment:

  • A loom with 4 shafts (Tom demonstrates on a jack loom, but we’ve also included a tie-up for countermarch looms)
  • Large boat shuttles, rug shuttles, or ski shuttles
  • Rug temple (optional but recommended)

Tom Knisely

Tom Knisely has been teaching handweaving for more than forty years. In addition to teaching, Tom weaves professionally and is a frequent contributor to Handwoven magazine. Voted Handwoven Teacher of the Year, Tom is renowned among his weaving students for his kindness, good humor, and seemingly infinite knowledge on the subject of weaving. He teaches at the beautiful Red Stone Glen Fiber Arts Center in York Haven, Pennsylvania.
